The 1st question I almost always get asked when I say I play Pool online, is How? How can you play a skill game, that is played on a table online? Well I can't tell them how the software works, but I'm finding its not hard to find a game of pool online almost anytime. If you love to play pool, you'll like to play pool online. There are differences, sure. But you can chat with your opponent, watch other games, get drunk, and even pick up a hot chick (not really) if you play pool online.
How much Different is online Pool from "Pool Hall" Pool
Its all about the Geometry, and its not online bingo. If you can line up a pool shot in a pool hall, you can line up a shot on an online pool game. Sure you'll have to play many games of pool online to get the hang of it. I'm working on it, and every game of online pool makes me better. Like "real" pool, you have to make sure not to cut the ball too much, learn to control the power of your shot, learn to use "English", and a whole host of other things that make online pool about as realistic as you could possibly imagine. At Least the good online pool rooms do, anyway.
Where's the best place to play pool online?:
Right now, its Pool Sharks. Tomorrow, it may be another room. As the game evolves, so will the competition, and the players. Like anything else, it will either grow, or not. I think more people will play pool online. Couch Potatos like myself don't want to deal with the smoke, the drunks (excepts for me, I'm a cool drunk), and the old tables that have "warp zones" that give people home table advantage.
Will Online Pool be the next Online Texas Hold'em fad?
I don't think it will. Hold 'em is a game of strategy, like pool, but the physical actions aren't nearly the same. It will never likely be possible to play a game of online pool the same exact way you play in a pool hall. But, as the community evolves, we'll see more standardization.
